Graphic Design Solutions

5 stars (Thorough and engaging) - This book is used as a course text in many design classes across the country. I can see why. Not so much a history as it is a survey of the current state of graphic design, it's quite possibly the best treatment I've ever read on the subject in a single volume. The 3rd edition is significantly expanded in content and reformatted versus the 2nd, and the illustrative examples are abundant and well-chosen. Many of the examples are accompanied by remarks from the designers themselves, which helps shed light on the concepts and thought processes behind the work. The text strikes a good balance between commentary and pedagogy, and as a result the book works for both instructional reference and casual reading. The end of each chapter contains related exercises designed to prod your right brain into action. This book will help you discover -- or rediscover -- what's fun and exciting about graphic design. 3 stars (Good compilation but too many typographical errors) - This book would be wonderful if the editor had done a great job of fixing all the typographical errors. I lost concentration and kept correcting typing mistakes ...very unprofessional...makes you wonder who is teaching me...otherwise a good help 5 stars (Great resource for begining Designer) - I am a design student, and this was our textbook for one of my design foundation classes. The projects that we did in class (and are now in my portfolio) were modified versions of some of the exercises in this book. This book starts with the basics of 2D design and then builds on what you have learned. It is a great overview of other areas of design as well. This is a hands on book that allows you to learn by doing. If you are interested in graphic design go get this book! ...

Electrical Wiring Residential - Based On The 2005 National Electric Code Electrical Wiring Resident

5 stars (Excellent Text!) - We used this book in a year-long class and it took me a long way. While not specifically a "how to" book, it provides a wealth of information on how to do a code-conforming (and therefore safer) job in about any residential application. The questions at chapter ends and drills that have you draw wiring diagrams will effectively reinforce material read and help you learn how to use the code. A valuable reference and addition to my electrical library! I cannot recommend it strongly enough! 5 stars (The best I have tried.) - This book is my electrical bible. I tried several books before I found this one. I bought it when I was trying to rewire an old house. The first 2 books I bought left me dazed and confused. I finally spent an afternoon in the bookstore browsing through every electrical book I could find until I ran across this. What a find. It not only explains clearly what has to be done, but why. The book makes good use of tables to summarize information and excellent use of diagrams. It not only teaches you to wire correctly, but teaches you the code as well. Highly recommended. If you don't know what a wirenut is, this may not be the book for you as it assumes some level of knowhow on the part of the reader. Otherwise, this is likely to be the last residential wiring book you will ever buy. 4 stars (Dunwoody uses it -- you should too) - I went to Dunwoody Institute, and their electrical department uses this as a textbook for future electricians. The biggest downside is it doesn't cover some of the low voltage/HVAC in the depth that it does everything else. It has constant code references, but it also explains things plainly enough that most people can understand them. It is a little expensive, but I would definately recomend it. ...

Dosage Calculations- 7e

5 stars (great for new nurses and students) - This is a great student and new nurse medication book. 5 stars (Dosage Calculations review) - I've really enjoyed this book so far. Simple directions to refresh my memory on how to do the math/dosage problems. Only up to chapter 5 or thereabouts but very informative to that point. Would recommend it. 5 stars (For the math challenged...) - I bought this book for a math for nurses class. I took the class because even after all the math classes I've taken, math is still a struggle for me and this was a last effort before I start nursing school. THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL! For the first time ever, "I get it." I feel totally comfortable with calculations now. The book gives you several different methods to solving and you can pick the one that works best for you. It's easy to read and has great examples. 5 stars!!!!! ...

CLA Review Manual- A Practical Guide to CLA Exam Preparation

5 stars (A great review manual and reference book) - This book was my primary source when I was preparing for the CLA exam. Coherent, organized and thoughtful, it is a "must buy" for CLA candidates. Until my book was borrowed (and not returned) by another legal assistant, the manual served as a handy reference manual in my practice. ...

International Building Code 2003 International Building Code

4 stars (A Strucural Engineer's Necessity) - It is pretty difficult to review a specification that you must have. 5 stars (49 states are now adopting this Code) - Better learn this code. Local codes are being swept away by one standard. Here is Colorado each town had its own test, amendments and licensing system. California is the only state, having revamped its code 2 years ago, to keep its system. I finish basements, often for homeowners who think they can do it. From Loveland, I can work any city without irate inspectors wondering why I don't know their specific requirements. Good book. ...

Thomson Advantage Books- Reason and Responsibility - Readings in Some Basic Problems of Philosophy

5 stars (fast shipping) - this is an old edition. but practically there is no difference. i saved a lot on this item. shipping is fast too 5 stars (Great Introductory Book) - I highly recommend Feinberg's 'Reason and Responsibility' to beginning philosophers. Feinberg presents various philosophical topics in an organized manner and selects text that is easy to understand for readers new to philosophy. Readers are weaned into the language of philosophy by first being presented with the jargon in the beginning of each section. It's a great book that covers a variety of topics, from arguments about God's existence to ethics to abortion. 5 stars (Great Anthology) - It is unclear whether my previous attempt to write a review of this book went through or not. If not, here goes again: A disclaimer: I have absolutely no connection with the authors or publishers and stand to benefit in no way from the sale of this book. My background: MA in philosophy and have taught as a teaching assistant on a number of philosophy courses at university level. Review: This is the best anthology of philosophical writing that I am aware of. It's strength lies in the range of readings it includes. The editors have, it seems, stayed very involved with their book and update the readings every few years. As a result this anthology includes some very recent material in addition to the classics. so, the reader has available to him/her a collection of writings that span nearly 2,500 years of Western philosophy. Note: it is an anthology of philosophy in the western tradition. A second notable strength of Reason and Responsibility is the introductory essays that appear at the start of each section. These are clear and especially helpful to those new to philosophy. It is also noteworthy that the editors have attempted to compile readings that give the reader a sense of the two sides to any given debate. This is not always the case with anthologies. One word of warning for those new to philosophy: mu...

Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology - A Resource Manual- 3E

5 stars (The best speech path book) - this book is an excellent resource for aspiring speech language pathologists.....it provides great charts in a convenient ring binder..... 5 stars (Invaluable Resource for Speech-Language Pathologists!) - I am an SLP and work in a hospital setting and have found this to be an invaluable resource while working with clients of all ages. It takes what you've learned as a grad student and sums it all up into a useful resource that you'll use over and over again. 5 stars (Wonderful resource for assessing clients of all ages!) - I use this as a text in my Diagnostic Procedures Class which I teach at So. Il. Univ. @ Edwardsville. This book has tables, norms, and forms for diagnostics in a variety of areas. I wish I had this book at my disposable when I was doing work as a staff therapist. It takes the best diagnostic information from a variety of texts and puts it in one book! ...
